Hallucination
When an AI states something false with full confidence. It is a known limit of current models, which is why you check anything that matters.
A hallucination is when an AI produces an answer that sounds right but is not true - an invented statistic, a made-up quote, a source that does not exist. It happens because the model predicts likely-sounding text rather than looking facts up. The tone stays confident whether the answer is correct or not, which is exactly what makes it risky.
Why it matters for business
Anything you publish, send to a client, or make a decision on needs a human check. AI is excellent for drafting, brainstorming, and summarizing, but it should not be trusted blindly on facts, figures, or legal and financial details. Treat its output as a fast first draft, not a final source of truth.
How to reduce it
Ask the model to work only from a document you provide, request its reasoning, and verify any specific fact, number, or name before you rely on it.Keep reading
