API
A way for software to talk to other software. AI tools use APIs to connect to your apps; automations wire APIs together so work flows between them.
An API is a doorway one piece of software opens so another can talk to it. When your booking tool sends a confirmation to your email tool, that message travels through an API. You rarely see it, but almost every AI tool and automation you use is quietly making API calls behind the scenes.
Why it matters for business
APIs are what let your tools work together instead of living in separate silos. An automation that copies new orders into a spreadsheet, or an AI step that reads a support ticket and drafts a reply, both rely on APIs to move information from one place to another. Understanding that everything connects through APIs helps you see what is possible to wire up.
Watch the cost
Some AI APIs charge per use. If you connect one to a live tool, put a sensible limit in place first so a mistake cannot run up an unexpected bill.Keep reading
